"The Interrupters" on PBS' Frontline!

Sign-up to host a Movie Watching Party in your community. Spread the message of peace and the Youth PROMISE Act in conjunction with this powerful film. We can't do this or any campaign without your support! Help us spread the word and organize for an America and where all our children are safe and supported. |
"An unforgivable American tragedy" is how Manohla Dargis of the New York Times summarized the issues underlying the story. She goes on to describe a heart-wrenching scene in the film: "When a frail-looking child with startled eyes breaks down crying, her tiny hands covering her tiny face as she talks about a neighborhood shooting, it's hard not to want to gather her up in your arms. It's also difficult not to feel outrage along with a sense of confused, familiar helplessness because this child lives in that war-torn part of the world called Chicago."
Indeed, millions of our nation's youth live in war zones right here in the U.S. And yet, who has their back? These bright young souls are too often trapped in the vicious cycle of violence and despair -- many left to essentially fend for themselves amidst devastating conditions. That is what is truly unforgivable and tragic. We must do better.
The "Interrupters" from CeaseFire Chicago are an example of a group of people making an impact to reduce violence and help mend communities, sometimes at great personal risk. That is why we are taking this youth campaign on at The Peace Alliance and Student Peace Alliance. Please stand with us. Let's help create a groundswell of support for the work that is saving hearts, minds and lives. Our most at-risk youth in America need to know, "we've got your back!"
We are also helping to organize Movie Watching Parties around the nation, showing the DVD of the film (also out today). We HIGHLY encourage you to watch tonight, and if you are inspired, to consider hosting a viewing party in the coming month to help spread the word about the need for this kind of work in our communities -- and much greater investment through initiatives like the Youth PROMISE Act.

We have been touched and thrilled with the response from people all across the country (and world!) who are signing up to host viewing parties. We hope the film viewings will help inspire and motivate engaged action for real change.
We also hope you will consider making a financial contribution, large or small, to help us keep this work going. Your support will help us buy DVDs to send to hosts who can’t afford to purchase them, and to maintain ongoing day-to-day work it takes to support the Viewing Parties across the country and sustain all our organizing work.
Your support will help us sustain a growing national movement, to amplify the message, that yes indeed, someone has the back of our most vulnerable children.
With Deep Respect,
