The legislation to establish a U.S. Department of Peace will be re-introduced into the U.S. House of Representatives on Monday, February 5th! We need your support to get members of the House to sign on as initial co-sponsors. Even if your member was one of the co-sponsors during the last Congress, they still need to sign on again this time. Since both members of the Senate who were sponsors have retired, we need to find a new Senate leader as well. Legislation will not go into the Senate until we finalize support. It is imperative that you take action by calling and writing your members of the House and Senate starting today. Tell everyone you know to do the same.

Department
of Peace Conference! Dear [[First_Name]], Happy New Year! As you can imagine, we have been busy since the first of the year with final preparations for our big Department of Peace Conference February 3-5 in Washington, D.C. We so hope you will be joining us for this momentous event! The Department of Peace legislation will be re-introduced into the House of Representatives on Monday, February 5th. The most important thing you can do as the legislation is re-introduced is to be with us, along with the new Congress, in our Nation's Capitol. If enough of us are there to make our voices heard in support of these practical peacebuilding solutions, we will not be ignored. We want to encourage you to be bold in your consideration about making this trip to D.C. There are still plenty of time to find good airfares (Don't forget to try Southwest Airlines and Jet Blue, who are not listed on popular travel comparison sites like www.expedia.com but have great prices). We have also posted a list of alternative/affordable hotels near our conference facility which might help make it a financial reality for you to attend. To further reduce costs, you can also visit our room share discussion forum and read our tips on raising funds. We will be announcing additional exciting speakers in the next week or two as plans are finalized, including other Members of Congress who will be joining us. Some who are invited are Rep. Keith Ellison (MN), Rep. Barbara Lee (CA), Rep. John Conyers (MI), Rep. Mazie Hirono (HI), Senator Ted Kennedy (MA) Senator Bernie Sanders (VT) and more... SPONSOR A STUDENT Can't be at the conference but willing to sponsor someone else? We have a list of high school and college students who want to make the trip to D.C. to lobby their Members of Congress but have financial limitations. If you are willing to help a student attend, please write our student coordinator, aaron@thepeacealliance.org. There is still plenty of time to make plans to be with us. You will not be sorry you made the choice, it will be a life changing experience. For all the details about the conference, click here. In Peace,
