The Peace Alliance Campaign for a U.S. Department of Peace and Nonviolence
Call for a Department of Peace
December 3 - 7, 2007

NATIONAL ACTION

From Monday, December 3rd through Friday, December 7th, Americans of all generations will unite to telephone the offices of our Federal House of Representatives every 30 minutes to "Call for a Department of Peace!"

We must act now. The impact of violence on Americans of all ages is too painful and costly, and the opportunities for peace are too great. We must make it known that all of us, from all generations, Call for a Department of Peace!

By calling every 30 minutes for a week, we make it known that the Department of Peace is of importance to our congressional districts. See below to sign up for one time slot, and how to organize your friends, family, and network to do the same!

THE URGENT NEED FOR A DEPARTMENT OF PEACE

None of us is truly immune from the epidemic of violence. Civil society and government initiatives are working to build peace, addressing issues of domestic violence through nurse-family programs; bullying in schools through conflict management programs; gang violence in our communities through nonviolent prevention and intervention efforts; and international conflict through multi-track diplomacy.

However, these programs remain barely funded and supported. We must prioritize these peacebuilding initiatives through the establishment of a Department of Peace which will create and oversee a Peace Academy as well as provide a unified platform to organize a strategic national initiative to invest in peace.

Together, we can build the momentum we need to make it known that all generations of American people call for the establishment of a Department of Peace!

Gratitude,

The Student Peace Alliance and The Peace Alliance
