I am writing in the hopes that you will join me in supporting an exciting effort to create a safer and more secure America. It is called becoming a Peace Partner and donating to the campaign to establish a cabinet level U.S. Department of Peace and Nonviolence.

As a former Vietnam era U.S. Navy pilot, retired airline Captain, father of two college-age boys, and a student of our nation’s history as regards the intentions of our Founders, I have an intense desire to exhibit my patriotism and help our country develop a more compassionate and cost-effective way of dealing with violence – both at home and abroad. It is all about the prevention of – rather than an unthinking reaction to - violence. We desperately need this nonpartisan effort to create a Department of Peace and Nonviolence - which I am personally convinced will lead us to this goal.

I don’t have to remind you of the incredible monetary and human costs of war. On the home front, it is reliably estimated that we spend over $300 billion a year domestically on the after-effects of violence – not including any war- or military-related costs. Creating a Department of Peace and Nonviolence is a realistic and cost-effective way to reduce the excessive costs of violence and to secure the blessings of liberty that our Founding Fathers fought so valiantly for. A mere 2-½ percent reduction in the annual cost of violence would pay for the new Department and would send a strong message to our friends and enemies alike as to the real intentions of our nation.

Becoming a Peace Partner and contributing monthly to the campaign to establish a U.S. Department of Peace and Nonviolence has been an intense source of pride for me.
