As the holidays approach, “Peace on Earth” will once again be the inspiring yet unrealized theme of the season. This year, we want to offer our nation and world a tantalizing possibility: what if we could make this message a reality?
We believe the practical yet powerful work of peacebuilding -- which The Peace Alliance supports -- offers a real prescription for peace on the planet. So this holiday season, we are asking you to take a stand in partnership with us in spreading the message that indeed, peace is possible, by hosting a House Party in your community with the theme of “Peace: Making it Real!” We recently shared the announcement of our exciting 2009-2011 strategic plan. Now is the opportunity to share all of the exciting ways people can get involved in making peace a reality.
We will provide planning and material support for your house party, whether it is focused on awareness building, recruitment and/or fundraising. Join people in cities across the nation gathering at the same time on December 5th and again on January 9th to share the profound potential of The Peace Alliance to make peace real.
Date and Time:
-
We are encouraging our network to host parties on Dec. 5th and/or
January 9th. 1:00 pacific, and 4:00 eastern are the suggested start times (2 hours total max), with the national Town Hall conference call (see below) starting approximately 1 hour into the House Parties. We will let you know soon who
our roster of guest speakers will be and the time they can be on. If these times or dates do not work for you, hold your party whenever best for your schedule (it's possible a staff member can call in to your event regardless of the time).
- An added
benefit to having a January date is the possibility of a multiplier
effect of Dec. 5th event. You can invite attendees on the 5th to pledge to bring new people to a second House Party,
or to host their own.
Virtual Town Hall:
- As part of the House Parties, we will host a national peace Town Hall Conference Call led by our Executive Director, Lynn McMullen, along with prominent public leaders (announcement forthcoming). Join together with fellow organizers from around the country during your house party!
NOW is the time to come together for peace, by inviting friends, family, colleagues, local peacebuilders, and anyone interested in your community to learn about the profound potential we share. Host it with a friend, other local Peace Alliance/Student Peace Alliance supporters, or host it on your own. Join us!
Register your Event!
- Sign-up to host your own party!
- Post your event on
DoPeace: Create your own personal invitation webpage for promotion,
that allows you to collect rsvp's.
- Special note about DoPeace events: At some point we will
encourage the tens of thousands on our email list around the country to join a
local House Party if they are not hosting their own. If you do not want your House Party to have people outside your own network attending, then be sure and
check the box to make your event private so others will not see it. You may not want to use the tool
included with DoPeace to invite your friends as it only allows a few words of
text and doesn’t allow you to personalize names.
