Terri Mansfield and the Arizona Department of Peace Campaign supporters
enrolled the Mayor of Phoenix in declaring the 4th Annual Department of
Peace Day. Here is the proclamation.

A PROCLAMATION
FIFTH ANNUAL ARIZONA DEPARTMENT OF PEACE CAMPAIGN DAY
WHEREAS, Presidents Dwight Eisenhower, John Kennedy, Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan each focused on various aspects of the Department of Peace, and over 100 bills have been introduced into Congress since the end of WWII to create a Department of Peace in the federal government; and
WHEREAS, as of 4-1-08, more than 30 countries are each working to create their own Department of Peace; and
WHEREAS, the AZDOP Campaign explains the Dept. of Peace legislation as the following:
- Provide assistance for coordinating existing programs in their own communities, as well as programs newly developed and provided by the Department of Peace;
- Research, articulate, and facilitate nonviolent solutions to domestic and international conflict;
- Support programs which teach violence prevention and mediation to America's school children;
- Support our military with complementary approaches to ending violence;
- Build a 4 year Peace Academy, which will be a sister to the military academies, focusing on mediation and conflict resolution as well as foreign languages, economies and cultures; and
WHEREAS, the mission statement of the AZDOP Campaign reflects its goal as an inclusive, transpartisan, proactive, solution-oriented grassroots organization which networks with and educates all Arizonans, and cultivates problem-solving dialogues for the common good, both domestically and internationally; and
WHEREAS, grassroots AZDOP Campaign volunteers serve as a "bridge" between community citizens and our elected officials.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, PHIL GORDON, MAYOR of the City of Phoenix, Arizona do hereby proclaim April 8, 2008, as the FIFTH ANNUAL ARIZONA DEPARTMENT OF PEACE CAMPAIGN DAY in Phoenix.
Given under my hand in these free United States in the City of Phoenix, on the ninth day of April, two thousand eight, and to which I have caused the Seal of the City of Phoenix to be affixed and have made this proclamation public.
