This year both the Democratic and Republican parties are offering you
the chance to give feedback on their political platforms. You can help
put the Department of Peace and Nonviolence at the top of the political
agenda of our nation's major political parties for the next four years
through your participation!
Democrats
The Democratic Party is holding platform meetings in all 50 states now through July 27 "where individuals can share what issues are most important to them and what should be at the heart of the Democratic platform for change."
Information on where and when your local meeting will be held, is available online. A national hearing will take place August 1st and the platform drafting committee will meet separately August 2nd and 3rd. The meeting of the full platform committee is scheduled for Aug. 9th. The Democratic National Convention will be held Aug. 25-28 in Denver, CO.
Republicans
The Republican Party is offering grassroots input into its platform via a web-based initiative. "On this website, you can share your thoughts, participate in polls, and communicate directly with the policymakers who will be shaping the party's agenda."
The site allows you to submit both text and video-based commentary. The party platform meeting is tentatively scheduled for Aug 25-28. The Republican National convention will be held Sept. 1-4 in Minneapolis-St. Paul, MN.
