League of Women Voters—a New Partner in Peace? |
|
|
|
The Wheaton League of Women Voters is advocating a new national study
on the establishment of a Department of Peace and Nonviolence.
League members will present this proposal at the National Convention in Portland, Oregon this
June:
"Should the U.S. Establish a Department of Peace and Nonviolence?"
A study proposal is just the first step in a consensus-building process that could take up to two years. If the process does result in League support of the establishment of a Department of Peace, the League of Women Voters would be a valuable ally in our work.
Take Action
We are asking you to do one of three things to help the Wheaton League Chapter:
- If you are an LWV member and plan to attend the National Convention, please go to the caucus that Wheaton is hosting. Details:
Saturday, June 14, 2008
10:00 AM - Noon
Hilton Portland -
Senate Suite, Third Floor
921 SW 6th Ave
Portland, OR 97204
- If you are an LWV member, but aren't going to the convention, please contact others in your local chapter to find out if anyone is going and invite them to participate in the caucus.
- If you are not an LWV member, find the closest chapter to you and introduce them to the proposal.
More details of the proposal can be found at www.wheatonlwvil.org .
