Plan an event in conjunction with National Youth Violence Prevention Week activities during the week of March 31-April 5 and publicize The Peace Alliance Public Service Announcement (PSA)!

April 2008 Student Peace Alliance National Action:

Building Peace on Our Campuses and in Our Communities

Guidelines for the Action:

  • Plan an event in conjunction with National Youth Violence Prevention Week activities during the week of March 31-April 5. The campaign includes various efforts throughout the week, including days to respect tolerance, manage anger, resolve conflicts peacefully, and support school safety.  The final day of the campaign brings youth and community members together to develop a comprehensive youth violence prevention plan.
      • More information and materials can be found at http://www.violencepreventionweek.org/
    • If you are unable to plan an event during National Youth Violence Prevention Week, don't give up!  Events can be held at any time during the month of April!  We recommend partnering with another local or campus organization that has similar goals with youth violence prevention for the event to make your message more powerful and reach a larger audience.
    • Volunteer with your chapter at a local non-profit that works with youth violence prevention!  Work within the community to develop a greater understanding of what policies would be needed to effectively prevent violence against youth.
  •  Publicize The Peace Alliance Public Service Announcement (PSA)

o      Contact your local or campus TV station and request that they run the PSA.  If you can, ask them to show a blank background with the time, date, and location of your SPA meetings at the end of the PSA.  This will help with both awareness and recruitment.

The PSA will be available online as of March 31st at both www.ThePeaceAlliance.org/Stand and on YouTube, titled - "Stand Up" Public Service Announcement.

If you reach an agreement with a station to play the PSA, please contact Communications Coordinator Rob Atkinson at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it by April 12th if you want to be mailed a copy of the Public Service Announcement DVD.  In that email you must include:

  • Name
  • School
  • Mailing Address
  • Name of TV station and contact information for the station

When you have confirmation from the channel or station that they will show the PSA (they have received the DVD and given you an idea of when it will be shown), please email us at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it so we can track our success!

o      Host a viewing of the PSA with your SPA chapter.  Use the PSA as an opportunity to work on messaging with members of the Student Peace Alliance.

o      Have the PSA playing the next time you table for a Department of Peace.  Strong visuals such as the PSA will draw people to your table and actively engage them in learning about a Department of Peace.

  • No matter what you do, please tell us about it!  E-mail a brief overview of your event or action to This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it so we can put YOU on the SPA website!
