By Mekiya Waters

On January 15, 2008, several members of the Western North Carolina Student Peace Alliance attended a Martin Luther King, Jr., march in downtown Asheville, bearing signs, banners and baseball card information sheets concerning the Department of Peace bill.

While waiting for the walk to start, they handed out the information sheets and were met with a fair amount of success and interest. The march soon commenced, with the WNC Student Peace Alliance walking slightly apart from the others. When they arrived at the Asheville courthouse, everybody gathered around the square and listened to several stirring speeches from a number of guest speakers. By the time the speeches ended their fingers and toes were numb, but they were nothing if not eager to continue their efforts for the Department of Peace.
