On September 23, 2007, we held a workshop at the Unitarian-Universalist Fellowship in Port Angeles, WA. The presenter was Jamal Rahman, a Muslim Sufi speaker, professor, and author, and founder of the Interfaith Community Church. He is also director of the Sacred Psychology School at Seattle University, a Catholic Jesuit institute.
The title of the workshop was "Islam: Discover the Current and Ancient Beauty, Peace and Wisdom of Islam." His presentation was preceded by an introduction on the three Abrahamaic faiths by a Jewish educator.
We had several co-sponsors including Sacred Nature, a Jewish organization, Vets for Peace, Green Party, Compassionate Listening Project, Association for Global New Thought, and the Community Multicultural Alliance. Sixty persons attended, a very eclectic group who sat mesmerized at Jamal's presentation. Many persons were exposed to the concept of a Department of Peace for the first time.
