Invest in Peace: Ten Steps to Success

  1. Make a commitment to participate

  2. Get a buddy/team (optional)
Connect weekly during the campaign (if you need a buddy, email This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it ). *See below for tips on buddy work.

  3. Create a list of everyone you will ask
We recommend that you set a goal for the number of new Peace Partners (monthly donors) that you want to enlist. Keep in mind, that to achieve your goal, you will most likely have to ask more people than your goal number—maybe even three times as many.

  4. Make a plan for each person
Decide the best way to approach each one: house party, face-to-face meeting, phone call, etc. Keep in mind that face-to-face is the most effective way to ask and a phone call is the second most effective. Email is typically the least effective. However, be sure to match each person on your list to the method that will best serve them.

  5. Schedule Time
In your calendar mark when you will make calls to your list and/or set a date for a house party.

  6. Set up your Personal Donation Page (optional).

  7. Follow up
This is essential for success. Many people, once asked, will want time to think it over or consult their partner. They may not have their checkbook or credit card with them. Set a time to reconnect with them for their decision. Be sure to make the follow-up calls and meetings to which you agree. Keeping your word indicates to family and friends that they can trust us to use their time and money wisely.

  8. Thank everyone
Show your appreciation to everyone for taking the time to allow you to share about your work with The Peace Alliance, regardless of their decision. Write personal thank you notes to all who give.

  9. Keep the faith!
Asking for money can be embarrassing, discouraging and awkward. It can also be fun and fulfilling! Keep in mind the long-term goal of a Department of Peace. Sharing your commitment to this legislation in your conversations is as critical as the fundraising. It allows people to review their own commitment to peace and the Department of Peace.

  10. Celebrate every step
Acknowledge yourselves for everything you and your buddy/team do.

* On your buddy calls, discuss the following:

  • Set your goals together (See #3 and #4)
  • Calendar your calls and the weekly National Coaching Calls.
We recommend that when talking for the first time, set meetings for the entire six weeks. This will save you time and effort later.
  • Decide if you will hold a house party--together or separately
  • Share your progress and your success.
  • Share your challenges and practice asking
  • Join a National Coaching Call to share your successes and challenges
  • Commit to each other's success and appreciate and motivate each other to complete the process
