National Action Campaign
June 1 - June 16, 2007

In partnership with The Student Peace Alliance

When a man ponders fatherhood and the immense love he has for his children....
he wants to change the world for them with a lasting legacy.

Now he can.

What Dads Really Want for Father's Day Join the Student Peace Alliance and fathers across the country in writing Letters-to-the-Editor for Father's Day. We are calling for a national dialogue to address the root causes of violence. Our current level of violence is an unacceptable future for our children. Now, more than ever, we need new methods to address and solve conflict before it escalates into violence. We must call upon our legislators to support HR 808, calling for a Department of Peace that will give institutional heft to the burgeoning science of peacebuilding.

What can you do?

Write letters to the editor to inform local communities about the legislation for a cabinet-level Department of Peace!

The Student Peace Alliance is asking fathers and other Department of Peace supporters to write letters to the editor of local newspapers in an effort to educate communities about the Department of Peace. Letters can urge President Bush to make the Department of Peace a part of his legacy and consider, if not him, then who? Click here for tips on writing an LTE .  Use our new Letter-to-the-Editor tool to write your local paper today!

Host a letter writing party between June 1 and June 16th to support the campaign.

In addition to the letters, encourage local students and children to send postcards and drawings to President Bush asking him to make the Department of Peace part of his legacy.

As members of The Student Peace Alliance have told us, “We are all too aware that the roots of violence were planted a long time ago and today we bear witness to the impact. We are determined to be part of the solution by calling for a Department of Peace that will address the root causes of violence. And so we are calling for bold action.

“To borrow from a Chinese proverb, 'If we do not change our direction we are likely to end up where we are headed.' We must change our direction and move from a culture of violence to a culture of peace. We will not settle for anything less."

Please join our youth in this bold action! Write your letter today!
