Wendy Greene brings to The Peace Alliance a diverse background in the for-profit, nonprofit, and personal transformation arenas. She served 13 years at the former aerospace company Hughes Electronics Corporation and its subsidiaries (including DIRECTV®), fulfilling a variety of corporate communications and management positions, including Director of Public Relations and Manager of Investor Relations. From 2001 to 2003, she worked at the award-winning Challenge Day organization in roles ranging from Workshop Coordinator to Director of Operations. Prior to joining the Department of Peace campaign in 2004, first as a Congressional District Team Leader and later as a co-State Coordinator, Wendy facilitated transformational seminars with troubled teens in specialty schools. Born an “Air Force Brat,” Wendy has family members serving on active duty in both the Air Force and the Marines. She holds a B.A. degree in Sociology from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).
Kathy Kidd joined the Army after high school seeking adventure and independence. Afterwards, and after graduating from University of Houston with a Political Science degree, she worked a short time in politics, including managing a political campaign in California. Kathy subsequently worked in hotel and restaurant management and event planning and also volunteered with organizations centered mostly on the welfare of children and the homeless (such as Big Brothers/Big Sisters and Child Abuse Prevention Council), including serving on the boards of the San Francisco AAUW chapter and of the Houston Peace and Justice Center. She has worked in financial services for the past 10 years, where as customer relations manager she did what she loves best – cultivating relationships. Kathy is a breast cancer survivor, an experience that turned her life around by leading her to rethink what was most important to her. She is working with the Department of Peace campaign because of her desire to bring healing to the political process and to be instrumental in creating and fostering a culture of peace in our country and the world. Among Kathy’s favorite quotes is Rumi’s, “Out beyond the idea of wrong-doing and right-doing, there is a field; I'll meet you there.” Another is Anita Roddick’s, “If you think you’re too small to have an impact, try going to bed with a mosquito in the room.”
Patty Kuderer is the National Communications Director for The Peace Alliance, a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization leading the growing grassroots movement to create a U.S. Department of Peace and Nonviolence. She is past Co-Chair of the Washington State Department of Peace Campaign, 2004-2005. Patty was part of the “silent majority” until 2003, when she joined the Washington State Kucinich for President Campaign as the State Media Coordinator. It was then that she learned about a bill to create a U.S. Department of Peace. An attorney and former prosecutor, Patty knew well the cost of violence to individuals and to society at large. Her enthusiasm for the legislation led her to The Peace Alliance, where she began as Communications Co-Director in 2005, ultimately becoming Director in early 2007. Patty works to raise awareness of the legislation in all media and trains the grassroots in effective communication about the bill. A wife and mother of 2 teenagers, Patty also volunteered her time at church and schools, focusing on educational and social issues that helped formed the bedrock for her political activism. She is a former partner of Hoff, Barry & Kuderer, PA, and a past Board Member of Minnesota International Health Volunteers and William Mitchell College of Law Alumni Committee. Peace and the prevention of violence remain her passion.
Lynn McMullen brings to The Peace Alliance more than 20 years of experience in grassroots organizing and lobbying. From 1987 to 2001, she served at RESULTS, a U.S.-based citizens' advocacy network, as the National Grassroots Manager, Development Director and ultimately Executive Director. She has organized and managed numerous successful lobbying and media campaigns to establish and increase funding for a variety of social service efforts, including Head Start early childhood education, food stamp programs, Child Survival foreign assistance, international AIDS prevention and treatment, and microfinance, both nationally and internationally.
In 2003, she co-founded the nonprofit Global Democratic Citizens Union, launching an initiative in South Africa to bring economic literacy and microfinance to AIDS orphans and vulnerable youth in rural areas of KwaZulu Natal and create a replicable model of microfinance for teen youth through the school system.
Lynn has been involved with the Department of Peace Campaign since its inception. She served as National Campaign Manager for The Peace Alliance from 2004 to 2007, and National Campaign Advisor from 2007 to 2008. She returned to full-time status as the Executive Director in October 2008.
Lynn is a founding Board Member of the Grameen Foundation Board of Directors, and consults with the Center for Nonviolent Communication. Dr. Muhammad Yunus, recent Nobel Prize winner, is the chairman of the Global Democratic Citizens Union Advisory Board.
Debbie Urben is a proud mother to three college-age boys, living in the Detroit, Michigan, area. She began her work volunteering for the Global Renaissance Alliance (now The Peace Alliance Foundation) in 2000 and soon afterwards became a part-time employee. She has spent the last 10 years studying politics, peace, social justice, and personal growth.
