Marianne Williamson and Aaron Voldman will
speak at Brandeis University on Wednesday, April 18 concerning the establishment of a US Department of
Peace. The event will take place at 7:00 pm in the Sherman Function
Hall.
The speakers will discuss the
Department of Peace initiative and the importance of peacebuilding. Marianne
Williamson is an internationally acclaimed author and the founder of The Peace Alliance, the US campaign for a Department of
Peace. Aaron Voldman is the founder and Director of
the Student Peace Alliance, the national student campaign for a Department of
Peace. Voldman is also a sophomore at Brandeis.
The Department of Peace is proposed by a
bill before the U.S. House of Representatives to establish a United States
Department of Peace. This historic measure will augment our current problem-
solving options, providing practical, nonviolent solutions to the problems of
domestic and international conflict. The
Department of Peace is co-sponsored by 62 representatives.
Marianne Williamson is the chair of The
Peace Alliance and has written four number-one New York Times Best-sellers and
hosts a show on Oprah & Friends radio.
Aaron Voldman founded the Student Peace Alliance, the student branch of
the Department of Peace campaign. The
first Student Peace Alliance
organization was founded at Brandeis and there are now over 30 campuses that
are part of the national Student Peace Alliance. Voldman is speaking at ten different campus
and community events in early April as part of a national tour to support the student
campaign for a Department of Peace. The
event is sponsored by the Brandeis Student Peace Alliance,
Brandeis Ethics Center,
and the Brandeis Peace, Conflict, and Coexistence Studies Department.
