and State Coordinators' sessions at the Peace Alliance's National
Conference.]

Purpose – Plan - ActionWe have many roles, wear many hats, but have one true purpose in life
Dot’s purpose: Inspire cooperation on behalf of the common good.

* Miki Kashtan & 40 mediators will offer-State Coordinators:
* Empathy – just being listened to and really heard
* Coaching – suggestions on how to handle a difficult situation/relationship
* Mediation – 40 mediators will rotate as requests come in
* NVC comes at it from needs of each person that aren’t being met
* Seeing problems as opportunities
Patty Kuderer & Matt Harris – National Media Campaign
* See media objectives on Goals and Objectives sheet
* Try to get at least one news piece about the campaign in the Journal
* Other pieces in regional and alternative papers
* Media strategy – have a press component around every event
* Identify a theme – Let’s Peace it Together , Give Peace Department a Chance,
* Get a state media coordinator – build relationships with media
* Liaison with campaign media staff
* Try to do something every month
* Call in to talk show hosts, left, center or right
* Rotary Clubs – Looking in February for speakers on peace – Contact
* Dan Zwerdling from NPR will be at conference, DCTV (2-6pm Saturday)
* Documentary makers here (one from NH & another from
* International press will also be here – Japan, Netherlands, Al Jazeera etc.
Building a State Strategy and Building a Team
How do you motivate a team of people?
1. Celebrating small victories and giving gratitude and appreciation
2. Action is the best motivation of all – don’t wait to get inspired before you act, act & you’ll get inspired
3. Have people
4. “All beings prove but a blunt instrument, if they have not behind them a spirit?”
5. Each person feels important and essential to the group.
6. Have everyone leave with something to do. Make sure it fits their passion.
7. The Back to Basics campaign: Keep Congressional impact first and foremost
How do you create a plan?
* Collaboratively. Shared leadership, Shared responsibility.
* Revisit plan. Revisit web site.
* Synergize! Use one project to meet multiple goals – Increased impact.
Activities
* “Picture Peace” event in Idaho
* Mary Jane’s Peace of the Pie kiddy swimming pool in MN – took to State Capitol
* Bi-partisan support for bill in AZ state legislature. Invited to hold AZ event on State Capitol lawn w/legislators
* ME legislation for a ME Dept. of Peace
