New Possibilities for a Dept. of Peace Print E-mail

Take Action

  • Two House co-sponsors elected to Senate! Contact them today...

As you are undoubtedly aware, the recent election results have changed the political landscape in D.C. This means our work to establish a Department of Peace has new possibilities ahead of us. Some of the most promising news is that we have two newly elected Senators, Rep. Sherrod Brown (OH) and Rep. Bernie Sanders (VT), who are currently co-sponsors of the legislation in the House of Representatives. This is particularly important as our current two sponsors in the Senate are both retiring after this term.

Take Action Now!
Contact both Congressmembers today. Congratulate them on their new positions and thank them for their support of the Department of Peace legislation. Urge them to introduce the legislation into the Senate next year. A quick call or note will show them they have the support of many to bring this forth. Keep your message positive and short.

Congressman Sanders: Phone (202) 225-4115 or fax (202) 225-6790. You can also send a written message through his web form at http://bernie.house.gov/const_serv/comments.asp

Congressman Brown: Phone (202) 225-3401 or fax (202) 225-2266. You can also send a written message through his web form at: http://www.house.gov/sherrodbrown/emailissues.htm

We will be giving more information in the coming weeks as to how we will be able to make inroads in this new political climate, but for now, these two actions steps will make a world of difference. These Congressmembers will need our support and encouragement to move this forward.

CONTACT YOUR OWN MEMBERS OF CONGRESS
Use the elections as an opportunity to contact your own members of congress in the House and Senate as well. Congratulate them on their success and let them know you will be in touch with them again when the Dept. of Peace bills are re-introduced into the congress again next year. Urge their support of the bill.

As always, our work remains non-partisan and we support cooperation and dialogue among all parties. We do, however, hope the results of the election will mark a new national commitment to dealing with the root causes of violence. It is time to invest in real solutions. We look forward to the opportunities that lie ahead.
