Kudos to Minneapolis
activists Paul Rozycki and Faith Kidder. They
arranged meetings with members of the Minneapolis City Council and
Peace Alliance Executive Director Dot Maver during her recent visit to
Minnesota.
As a result of these efforts, Minneapolis Councilmen Cam
Gordon and Gary Schiff have agreed to sponsor a resolution. Councilmen
Paul Ostrow, Scott Benson and Robert Lilligren expressed support during
the series of round robin sessions.
The next day it was a swing through Greater Minnesota for Dot. At Fairmount legendary southern Minnesota
peace activist Judi Poulson hosted lunch. Among the guests were Greg Mikkelson, running as aRepublican in the Congressional primary, A reporter for the Fairmount
Sentinel interviewed several members of the party. The paper did a
front page story on hometown girl and Peace Alliance CommunicationsCo-Director Patty Kuderer last month.
Cornstalk was a blast, wonderful music from across the country, a
beautiful setting in a grove at the edge of Hiedi and Homer Scott's cornfield. Minnesota State Coordinators Greg and Sue Skog answered a
steady stream of questions at the booth near the stage.
Dot Maver
spoke of a Department of Peace-building and introducedChelsea and Eric
Skog, two of the kid lobbyists who got Senator Dayton to introduce the
bill. Mary Jane LaVigne another Minnesota State Coordinator recalled that they were near Pipestone, Minnesota
where different groups of the
first Americans gathered in peace to mine the scared pipe material.
On the late night ride back to Minneapolis
we sang along to Dylan's
"Times They are A Changing.'" Indeed they are.
