Re:  Request for Discussion Concerning Proposed United States Department
        of Peace

Hon. Mayor, Council President, and Council Members:

    There is currently legislation before the United States House of Representatives to create a cabinet-level Department of Peace, [INSERT CURRENT BILL NUMBER], which will be headed by a Secretary who reports to the President.  Representative __________________, who represents [Name of State]’s ___th Congressional District, is a co-sponsor of the bill [or has not yet signed on as a co-sponsor of the bill].

      [INSERT CURRENT BILL NUMBER] holds peace as an organizing principle in our society by elevating domestic and international peace policies to the highest levels of the federal government. The establishment of a U.S. Department of peace would be beneficial to our community as a whole.

          As residents of [Name of State]’s __th Congressional District, we are requesting discussions regarding [INSERT CURRENT BILL NUMBER] with the City Councils of each of the [# of cities] cities that comprise the ___th Congressional District.  As such, we are requesting that a discussion be held before Your Honorable Body so that we may make a presentation regarding this bill.  After the presentation, we request that Your Honorable Body adopt a resolution supporting the establishment of  U.S. Department of Peace to be sent to Rep. __________.
