We are so pleased that we had a presence at both the Democratic and
Republican National Conventions. We are working diligently to move
beyond partisanship and this is particularly challenging during an
election year. These are the times that make it clear that we must
focus on what we have in common to achieve unity and lasting solutions.
Join citizens in your community for a walkathon-inspired "Walk for Peace" on September 20, 2008. Help raise money and awareness about the power of peacebuilding!
You can help make the issue of reducing and preventing violence a part of the election-year dialogue! Any time a candidate--especially a Presidential candidate--comes through your area, be sure that you and other Department of Peace Campaign supporters show up where they're speaking.
This year both the Democratic and Republican parties are offering you
the chance to give feedback on their political platforms. You can help
put the Department of Peace and Nonviolence at the top of the political
agenda of our nation's major political parties for the next four years
through your participation!
The Wheaton League of Women Voters is advocating a new national study
on the establishment of a new department of Peace and Nonviolence.
League members will present this proposal at the Leauge's National Convention in Portland, Oregon this
June 2008. Find out how you can help.
To start off, it is a good idea to identify one or two others who will work with you to help organize around the actions below. Meet to create a timeline for actions and to break out responsibilities. If it will be primarily just you who is organizing, you may choose to do an abbreviated version of the items below. If you can't do all these things, participating on a May 9th pie delivery/meeting is the most important part to engage in.
