Peace of the Pie Mother's
Day Campaign
May 9th
Today, grassroots supporters will be delivering pies and information packets about our campaign for a U.S. Department of Peace and Nonviolence to Congressional Representatives across the country. In Washington, D.C. there will be pies available for every member of the House.
A Department of Peace and Nonviolence would take a very small slice of the federal budget. The pies are used to make the point in a fun way.
After you visit with your representative, please take a moment to record your meeting.
Can't Deliver a Pie? Then Make a Call!
As pies are being delivered, we are asking everyone else to pick up the phone and give your representatives a call or send them a fax.
- Write your Members of Congress: Use our Online Action Center to write your representatives even if you have done so before (please select the 'send a fax' option).
- Call your Members of Congress: If you know the names of your members of the House and Senate, call the U.S. Capitol switchboard at (202) 224-3121, and they will connect you.
- After you have called, please take a moment to record your call information.
Look up contact information for your representative here.
Because of scheduling difficulties Peace of the Pie meetings will take place later in the month in some districts. If your representative is not visited today, you can still sign
up to be an organizer for your Congressional
District to deliver a pie later in the month. Search for an existing meeting in your area.

Charlottesville Makes 35!
Congratulations
Charlottesville, VA, volunteers! The city council passed
a resolution in support of HR 808 on April 7, 2008. The
resolution also urged Rep. Virgil Goode to support the
legislation and Senators Jim Webb and John Warner to introduce
companion legislation in the Senate and actively support
its passage.

opportunities remain to
learn more about the Campaign for a Department of Peace, receive
training on effective leadership and lobbying and generally have
a great time reconnecting with fellow grassroots supporters.
State
coordinators, Congressional District Team Leaders and outstanding

Participate in an historic citizen lobbying effort to create
a U.S. Department of Peace. There is currently a bill before the U.S. House
of Representatives (HR 808). This landmark measure will augment our current
problem-solving options, providing practical, nonviolent solutions to the
problems of domestic and international conflict.
Domestically, the Department of Peace will develop policies and allocate resources
to effectively reduce the levels of domestic and gang violence, child abuse,
and various other forms of societal discord. Internationally, the Department
will advise the President and Congress on the most sophisticated ideas and
techniques regarding peace-creation among nations. Learn
